Some of our Hoosier brethren seem to think we'd be better off as our own country and have petitioned the White House to secede from the USA. Just like the South prior to the Civil War. Here's the request to the President:

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
Peacefully grant the State of Indiana to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.
As the founding fathers of the United States of America made clear in the Declaration of Independence in 1776:

"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."

"...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government..."

Petitions that receive at least 25,000 signatures get an official response. Texas, the Lone Star State in which some people still seem to prefer one star to 50, was the first to clear that bar. Indiana isn't there yet.
